Making Financial Contributions... Without Parting With Your Assets!

Chris Daniel on August 3, 2010 Comments (0)

In our effort to further establish the financial base of the Richmond Study Center, we are excited to make you aware of a new patent-pending donation strategy by Immediate Legacy. This approach is intended for the donor who has at least $75,000 in invested assets and brings about four effects: 1) It creates an immediate donation to the non-profit2) It provides an immediate tax-deduction for the donor3) It ends up not costing the donor anything (the donor does not end up parting with his assets)4) It actually creates a modest income stream back to the donor that he did not previously...

[Chris is the Executive Director of the Richmond Center for Christian Study.  This blog submission was also published at Christianity.com and is based on the first of five sessions of an apologetics course that Chris originally presented at Virginia Commonwealth University March 24 - April 21, 2010.  Details and audio recordings can be found here.]       In this blog entry I want to start by saying a word about why we should care about truth.  Then I want to lay out how knowledge works, how to evaluate competing worldviews, and what it looks like to hold on to truth and tolerance at the same time.Truth...

New Matching Donation Opportunity!

Chris Daniel on June 1, 2010 Comments (0)

Support Situation - As we approach the end of our first official year, the support base of the Richmond Study Center is now up to 80% of where it needs to be to erase our monthly deficit and become financially stable for the long haul.  We need one final push to get to this financially stable ground.Matching Donation Opportunity - To help in this effort, two donors have offered to match new recurring donations one-to-one!  So a commitment of $10 per month would become $20 per month, or a commitment of $100 per month would become $200 per month, etc.       This is a great opportunity for new donors, or...

on May 31, 2010 Comments (4)

[Dr. Peterson is professor of systematic theology at Covenant Theological Seminary. This blog submission, also published at Christianity.com, is related to the weekendmini-course that Dr. Peterson presented through the Richmond Study Center on suffering and the resurrection May 23-25, 2010, and is taken from his book Suffering and the Goodness of God, which Dr. Peterson co-edited with Dr. Chris Morgan, professor of theology and associate dean of the School of Christian Ministries at California Baptist University.]        We are all acquainted with suffering. For us to get a handle on suffering we must view it from Scripture’s perspective and not merely from our own. That means...

Healthcare Reform and the Bible - Part 3 of 3 (The Role of Government)

Dr. Terrill Wade, M.D. on March 16, 2010 Comments (0)

[Dr. Wade is a board member of the Richmond Center for Christian Study and a retired family physician.  Her contribution to our blog was also published at Christianity.com.]The first article on this topic (in a three-article series) declared that the Bible definitely has answers to the healthcare crisis in America. The answers aren't simple, nor will they make everyone happy, but they're certainly clear. A robust biblical worldview bears on every part of life and culture. So, naturally, I believe the Bible is where we must begin if we are to adequately address any problem — including problems of this...

Perhaps you have heard stories about people who have lost everything in bankruptcy due to overwhelming healthcare bills. How can we resolve the healthcare crisis in a way that is fair? There are many different ideas floating around out there, but does the Bible have anything to say, directly or...

Our Vision for the Richmond Study Center Blog

Chris Daniel on December 2, 2009 Comments (0)

The Richmond Center for Christian Study was established June 2009.  Our primary objective this first year has been to develop relationships throughout the Richmond community, especially with its various churches and university communities.  As these relationships develop, we want to have a number of people, especially leaders from the churches and university communities, contribute to the blog on a regular basis.  These contributions would grapple with a variety of issues pertaining to worldview, apologetics, culture and theology. There will certainly be some variation of views, and not all views will necessarily reflect the specific views of the Richmond Center for Christian Study,...
