Vision
Mission Statement
The mission of the Richmond study center is to bring gospel transformation to individuals and communities within the greater Richmond area by fostering serious consideration and discussion of a biblical worldview and how that worldview speaks to all of life and culture.
What We Emphasize
Study centers often emphasize issues pertaining to apologetics, while some focus more on cultural matters. The Richmond Center for Christian Study embraces both. This comes out of the recognition that a love for the world God has made drives one to value and embrace that world (leading to an appreciation of culture) and to fight the effects of the Fall that have infected that world (leading to an engagement in apologetics). The study center will also emphasize matters pertaining to Christian worldview and biblical theology.
Target Audience
We seek to be a relational resource for the greater Richmond community, especially its churches and college communities, centered at the University of Richmond.
Strategy
The study center will carry out its mission in a variety of ways, including the following:
-
Forming relationships with university communities, churches, students and others, through which a Christian worldview can be brought to bear in their lives and communities.
-
Bringing to the universities and the churches a variety of speakers to present how the Christian worldview bears on a particular issue or on the speaker’s field of expertise. These speakers would include widely-known speakers, university professors and study center staff.
-
Providing hospitality events, such as Bible studies and Movie & Discussion Nights, where students can come and consider how a biblical worldview bears on their lives and the culture we live in.
-
Establishing a resource center next to the University of Richmond for the university community and the greater Richmond community as a whole, as well as satellite resource centers on or near other campuses and in other locations in the community in the form of cafés.
-
Offering courses and internships through which students and those in the churches and the greater Richmond community can grow in knowledge and be challenged in life.
